Complete or partial loss of hair is call alopecia.
Forms of alopecia include:
Alopecia totalis – complete loss of scalp hair
Alopecia universalis – total loss of all body hair
Hair loss, baldness or alopecia occurs when following a hair falling out a new one fails to grow in its place. Hair loss and baldness is rarely caused by disease and is most commonly due to being heredity and aging. Genetic baldness is not caused by excessive hair loss, but by the follicle’s failure to produce a new hair. Men and women both usually lose hair thickness and amount as they get older.
